Do We Need to Protect Our Brains from Social Media?

February 9, 2019 by Lauren 2 Comments

impact of social media on society

The impact of social media on society is huge. The internet as a whole has changed our world.

We can now interact with other humans instantaneously, across the globe, sharing each moment of life with a few keystrokes and the click of a button.

This degree of access has opened up endless possibilities—in business, education, relationships, and more. I love that I can publish a thought as it comes to me, share pictures with family in another state, and connect with people from every country.

But I’m also concerned.

11 Mindful Ways to Get More Meaning Out of the Holidays

December 14, 2018 by Lauren Leave a Comment

how to be more mindful for the holidays

I know that in the past (and still sometimes), I have trouble with simply being present during the holidays.

I’ll often pick up my phone and snap a picture for social media or check my Facebook during a lull in the conversation. Or I’ll still be running off adrenaline or stress from work, making it hard to get in the true holiday spirit and remember what’s most important during this time.

Mindfulness is hard—especially in times of busyness and travel and heightened emotions (even good ones). But it’s important. Staying in the present moment is what allows us to get the most out of the precious instances in life. It’s what helps us get out of our heads and away from our phones long enough to appreciate those around us.

If you get what I mean and crave that extra depth too, here are some thoughts on how to be more mindful during the holidays this year. [Read more…] about 11 Mindful Ways to Get More Meaning Out of the Holidays

How to Stop Resisting What’s Good for You (and Actually Stick to Healthy Habits)

September 18, 2018 by Lauren Leave a Comment

how to stick to healthy habits-2

There are certain self-care practices that, when I’m doing them daily, make me feel grounded and stable. But sometimes, even though they’re so good for me, I find myself stopping them completely and struggling to start again.

One of them is meditation. (I recently wrote about how meditation makes me anxious.) Another is yoga. Others are daily journaling, intentions/affirmations, listening to music, or simply giving myself time to be bored.

But lately, I’ve been exploring why I stop doing some of these things—and after digging deeper, I’ve started them up again and am really benefiting from it.

So in this article, I’m covering why I think many of us struggle with this and how to stick to healthy habits the right way. First, let’s look at some possible culprits. [Read more…] about How to Stop Resisting What’s Good for You (and Actually Stick to Healthy Habits)

How to Do Self-Care When Your Mind is Overwhelmed

July 25, 2018 by Lauren 2 Comments

self care overwhelmed

I’m gonna be honest — I’ve been having some rough days recently.

And I wish I could say why, but the truth is, I’ve just felt off. Caught up in my own head.

Lonely.

Sometimes very, very down.

Over the years I’ve learned this can hit me when new things are happening and I’m feeling overwhelmed.

For example, I’m moving to a new home in a few days. I’m also planning a wedding, which is super exciting, but there’s a lot to think about.

I’m also dealing with fluctuations in the effectiveness of my ADHD medication that is frustrating when it comes to my work (maybe I’ll elaborate on that more in another post).

I’m sharing this because I’ve learned in times like this, the meaning of self-care is a little different. [Read more…] about How to Do Self-Care When Your Mind is Overwhelmed
